Notre Dame star receiver Jeff Samardzija has agreed to a $10 million, 5-year deal with the Chicago Cubs. Samardzija was a two sport star at Notre Dame, he was 21-6 during his years pitching for the Fighting Irish. Had he decided to enter the NFL draft he was projected to be drafted in the first round, the
Hawe College Football Poll has him going as high as the 22nd pick. The 21 year old right hander was the Cub's 5th round pick in last years amateur draft and had a 2.70 ERA in seven starts for the Cub's Class A affiliates. Samardzija has made it clear that his first love is baseball and that there would be no returning to football.
Samardzija's deal included a $2.5 million signing bonus and the Cub's have an option to sign him for 6th and 7th season.
