February 7th is the day we see who is bringing in the top High School recruits and who will be heading to the Poinsettia Bowl. As usual the big time programs are looking good with USC, LSU, Notre Dame and Florida leading the pack.  Every site has a different ranking, below is how Rivals.com has ranked the top 15  schools based on commitments:

1. Florida
2. Texas
3. Tennessee
4. LSU
5. South Carolina
6. USC
7. Notre Dame
8. Georgia
9. Nebraska
10. Auburn
11. Oregon
12. Illinois
13. Clemson
14. Ole Miss
15. Ohio State

Alot of familiar names on that list, but some interesting things to point out. First where did South Carolina come from? Having the 5th ranked recruiting class should be 100% credited to Steve Spurrier. The Gamecocks used to be happy with being in the top 50, now they are at #5? Speaking of being in the top 5, Ohio State fans must be disspointment with their recruiting prospects, on every list I have seen they barely crack the top 20. I mean Illinois is ranked ahead of them? Come on, there is no way that Illinois should even be in the top half let alone be ranked better then the Buckeyes. Here is a question for you, when is the last time USC had a BAD recruiting year? I would have to guess sometime before Coach Carroll arrived. I just don't get how every top recruit has USC on their short list, I mean wouldn't you be better off playing for a big time school with more depth then fighting for playing time at USC?

Anyway once National Signing Day has passed and we know exactly who is going where I will revisit this topic and discuss the impact the incoming freshman will have for their teams. In the mean time be sure to check out the 2007 College Football Recruiting Tracker at CollegeFootballFanatics.com
