Over the past couple of days I have had more then a few discussions about who should be the #1 ranked QB heading into national signing day. Currently the conversation comes down to two players - Jimmy Clausen (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) who is ranked #9 overall and Ryan Mallett (Texarkana, Texas/Texas) who is ranked #12. I have watched all of the video's on these guys and have seen the stats and I have to be honest Mallett has a rifle of an arm, which is something Clausen lacks. However I think we need to look at the total package, Clausen might have a lesser arm but makes up for it with his field intelligence, mobility and accuracy. Don't get me wrong these two will be stars in College Football and any team would love to have either one of them taking the field. Going into the 2007 College Football season Clausen just looks better, but potential wise the nod goes to Mallett.  This reminds me of the big NFL draft question - Quinn vs Russell. Quinn is the NFL ready prospect but Russell has more potential. Either way its going to be an interesting season for the Wolverines and the Irish.
