Florida President Bernie Machen is pushing hard for a football playoff. Mr Machen has even gone as far as convincing SEC presidents to discuss a playoff at the next conference meeting in June. Mr. Machen told CBS Sportsline that he is pushing for the playoff now because FOX is pushing to extend their BCS contract beyond 2010.

It's good that a head figure at a major school is pushing for a playoff and isn’t bowing down to a media conglomerate. A playoff will be great and bring in more fans, but there is a great deal of details that still need to be worked out. Saying that a playoff would be good is easy - the actual details and how it would work so that we just don’t go from one flawed system to another - is the hard part.
